Obituary of June Splinter

Please share a memory of June to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Splinter, June “Mama” Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Sister June was preceded in death by her husband John Splinter, father Claus Johnson, mother Linnea (Monnie) Johnson, step father Arthur (Papa Art) Johnson, Sister Margaret (Lawrence) Carlson and brother Kenneth Johnson. Survived by her daughter Christine (Mike) Cairl, son Tim (Cara) Splinter, Sister in law Betty (Kenneth) Johnson, grandchildren Ryan (Emily) Cairl, Nicholas and Hanna Cairl. June was able to celebrate Christmas Eve this year with all her loved ones, celebrating the family Christmas traditions that we have celebrated for many years. Everyone embraced her love that evening enjoying her quick wit and humor. June passed away at Sunrise Care Center in Roseville surrounded by our family’s love and comfort after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. At first, we feared the thought of hospice care but came to embrace the care and comfort it gave to June. June was born in Saint Paul, MN on June 26th, 1926 as the middle child in the Johnson family (Margaret and Kenneth). Mom lost her dad Claus at the age of three because of a car accident. June’s mother Linnea was able to provide for her family by opening a boarding house on the east side of Saint Paul (Payne Ave) during the depression. She attended Johnson high school and later completed her English degree in 1959, later she furthered her education becoming an SLBP special learning teacher at Mounds Park Jr and Harding High School in Saint Paul. She learned many life lessons from this beginning and it made her the strong person we all know and love now. June married John after meeting him at Western Auto in 1954, June was enamored by John’s sparkling brown eyes. June’s children Christine and Timothy and the grand kids followed, and a long life of learning, loving and adventure began. June continued teaching until 1990 when she retired to a full time life of travel and enjoying her kids and grandkids. June and John were quite the square dancers and card players, and also traveled to many Elder-hostels. Mama taught us all to be better people, to enjoy the little treasures of life and to take people at face value. A more charitable, charismatic and joyful person cannot be found. We will truly miss her physical presence but know that she will be watching over us with her never ending love. Mama we love you too! Visitation will be at Anderson Funeral Home 1401 Arcade Street (Hwy 61) Saint Paul, MN Sunday, January 10th from 3pm to 7pm. Celebration of Life will follow on Monday, January 11th at 10 am with service beginning at 11 am followed by a light lunch. Memorials can be made out to the American Heart Association.
