I was shocked and stunned to hear of Mike's passing. Mike and I became fast friends and surrogate brothers back in the early 1980's having been assigned together at Ft. Huachuca, AZ. When Mike left the Army and moved to San Diego, I made regular trips to see him and eventually the love of his life, Allyson. I eventually was lucky enough to serve as the Best Man at their wedding. We stayed in touch over the years and most recently shared a 2 hour phone call just before Christmas. I truly idolized Mike and will miss him greatly! To Allyson, the kids and the rest of Mike's loving family, I will keep you in my prayers always.

My job was to support Mike from Australia through sales and marketing, though it is fair to say Mike helped me at least as much as I helped him. I relied on his generous guidance and encouragement especially in my early days of marketing at Mimotopes. The few times I got to meet Mike were a priviledge I will always cherish.

Mike was very much appreciated by colleagues and customers alike everywhere and he was indeed one of Mimotopes strong assets. Mike was fun and easy to work with and he was always of great company. I will cherish the many memories of Mike, his positive attitude, his wits, and the great time we had the opportunity to share in Melbourne and in the US, especially in Tucson. My deepest sympathy and condolences to the family.
Laurent Dapremont (formely Mimotopes).

It was a shock to learn the sad news. Mike was a top guy. He and Allyson were very welcoming whenever I visited San Diego, 20-25 years ago, showing me around on the weekends, and joining us elsewhere in the USA for meetings, conferences etc. I recall one in Hawaii too, in 2000. The picture I share is from 2004, at Pierce in Illinois. It was always good fun to see Mike. We spent a bit of time together and often in correspondence from the other side of the planet regarding various prospects and clients.
Mike was such a friend to Australia, helping the Mimotopes group to build its business in the USA over many years. Almost impossible to do without good people on the ground. He was a good person. I first met Mike when he was at MPS in Research Atomic Park. What an address.
I send my sympathy to Allyson and the family. It has very hard to lose a life long partner, a father, a son. Please take care of yourselves. Vale Mike

I met Mike in June 1994 when I arrived at MPS, the joint venture vehicle with Mimotopes, in San Diego where he was Production Manager. He and Allyson were welcoming to me.
Mike had a wonderful sense of humour and guided me in the ways and foibles of living in the US.
After about 12 months the joint venture went through a divorce and Mike, along with Dan Thornley set up the Mimotopes USA sales office. Our first real footprint outside Australia. Mike managed the venture. Some time later Mike approached me and said that the family had decided that they wanted to return to Minnesota and that he thought that he should leave Mimotopes. This was for the education of Brandon and Brenna who were by then heading into elementary school. This was a shock to be losing our main man in the US.
However, the hook he spun was that he could work for Mimotopes from a home office. Mike reasoned that he worked from an office in San Diego and there was no reason that he couldn’t do the same from home.
We got the Managing Director Ron Deane to agree and Mike, Allyson, Brandon Brenna and Whitney (I think) the dog all moved north.
Mike worked for Mimotopes from home for more than 20 years. He’d travel to Melbourne and our staff would meet up with him at conferences in the US and beyond.
Who knew that he would be such an early adopter of working from home.
Vale Mike; a really good bloke who will be sorely missed.
Ian Ray, formerly of Mimotopes.

I seems so unfair that I am writing this! My memories of Mike are of a bright, enthusiastic, lovable young man who was an essential part of our young company. He was responsible for much of our growth and success in the US. Marcia joins me in extending our deepest sympathy to Alison. Vale Mike

Stuart Rodda from Melbourne Australia here. I am so gutted to hear that Mike is gone. I worked with him for years from a long distance and also had the pleasure of hosting him here and visiting when he was in California. He was one of those people who lighten your life when things seem a bit difficult. I even picked up some of his funny sayings. We always wanted to meet up again, alas not to be, but I will always remember him fondly, and I hope he enjoyed the time we had together as much as I did. Vale Mike.

We are so lucky to have had such a loyal, charismatic and talented colleague as Mike in our company. We worked together for more than 25 years! What a maverick he was in representing our small Australian biotech in the huge market that is the USA. You have left an amazing legacy Mike and you were always such a gentleman and so positive and enthusiastic to work with. We are in shock and will miss you terribly. I am so sad that 2021 couldn't be the turnaround year you were hoping for. Gone too soon. Our heartfelt wishes to your family for courage and strength at this difficult time.

Mike was that rare gift to the world that truly made the world a better place for all who loved, knew, and met him. Not in the cliche sense but in the real sense--because he set the example with the way he lived his life. I have the gift of having him and his wonderful family as an integral part of my life for many decades now. My life is richer and fuller from having known him. I am in many ways the person I am today because of him and our friendship. He will be missed and the world is a lesser place without him in it. But his life carries on through Allyson, his children, the wonderful Routhe, clan and his friends. Mike taught me that love never dies--it merely changes shape and form and that we ourselves never die as our spirit is eternal and is always with the ones we love if we just look for the messages and signs. He always said--some of us are born with wings and those with wings are meant to fly, so fly. He has celestial wings now (always had earthy ones) and I can only image the wonderful ways he is taking flight.-- Alison

Ralph , as cardinal and I called him were best of buddies our teenage years. Then I moved away to Colorado and Cards died. We just lost touch. But we talked on the phone a couple years ago and expressed how much fun it would be to get back together again for a visit. Guess that’s not going to happen. I’m bummed. Rest In Peace Ralph. Say hello to Cards for me.
