Obituary of Ernest A. Strandberg
Please share a memory of Ernest to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ernest Arthur Strandberg was born on August 3,1923. He died at the age of 97 on February 9, 2021 at home with his daughter, Sue, attending. His wife, Doris (2005), and son, Gary (2020), preceded him in death.
Ernest’s grandparents, Martin and Anna Strandberg were charter members of Gustavus Adolphus Church of St. Paul, MN, where Ernest was baptized and confirmed, as was his entire family.
Ernest joined the US Navy during World War II. He was a Motor Machinist Mate third class serving in the Pacific. After his discharge, Ernie married Doris E. Johnson on June 1, 1946. They had three children, Keith, Gary and Susan. He worked for Northern States Power Company his entire career and was a member of the IBEW union.
Two of his passions were boating and fishing. They boated on the St. Croix River and the Mississippi River from ice out until it started to snow again. They kept their boat at the Alma marina in Wisconsin. One of their journeys was traveling from Alma to the Gulf of Mexico with friends, having a ball all the way down and back. They loved to have their kids and especially grandkids come and spend time with them, the longer the better. After retirement, they sold the houseboat and bought a home on Cross Lake in Pine City, MN. Now family could come to visit anytime, boating, fishing and snowmobiling.
Ernest is survived by children, Keith (Nancy), Susan (Gary) Stone, and daughter-in-law, Jeanne. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Private Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
One of his last words were “And I love each and every one of them.”
