Marty Braun, 51, of Mounds View, Minnesota, returned to his creator on June 1, 2021. He passed away peacefully, knowing he was loved and holding the hands of family members. Born with Spina Bifida, Marty had multiple complications which contributed to his unexpected passing. He fought hard to the end and is now resting with the ancestors. Marty was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on February 7, 1970. Marty was a member the Ojibwe tribe from White Earth, Minnesota. At age 6, he joined the Braun family. In 1978 – 1979 Marty served as the Minnesota poster child for the March of Dimes. As a child, he enjoyed lots of activities including Boy Scouts and numerous summers at Camp Courage. Through the Courage Center, Marty was involved with wheel chair basketball, archery, track and field, and Saturday Club, where he started life-long friendships with a tremendous amount of people. In High School he participated in Adaptive Athletics with the Fridley Tigers in Floor Hockey, Soccer, Softball, and Bowling. He graduated from Irondale High School, class of 1989. Marty loved and was committed to his girlfriend Molly Gale; they were together for 2 ½ years. Marty continued his love of sports by doing wheel chair racing and power hockey. He was a season ticket holder for the Minnesota Timberwolves, watching as many games as possible. He was an avid collector of sports memorabilia. Marty was engaged with recreational sports with We Love to Play. Marty was an active member of the Mounds View and White Bear Lake Lions Clubs. He was honored with the Helen Keller Sight Award from the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank. In his passing Marty’s eyes were donated so that others may enjoy the gift of sight. Marty loved his family and friends. Special times included trips to the State Fair, concerts, traveling around the country and spending time with loved ones. Our Dance Place was a favorite event where Marty enjoyed dancing, listening to music, and visiting with friends. Marty was a voracious reader of all Stuart Wood’s books. Marty is survived by Molly Gale; parents, Warren & Claire Braun; sisters & brothers, Joyce (Jean), Michael (Amy), Meri (Brian), Penni (Lenert), Mykl, Jennifer, Brian, Sabrina (Lenny), Mark, Lucas, Victoria; 6 nieces & nephews; many foster siblings and friends. Marty was preceded in death by brother, Steven; sister, Kari; and grandparents, Chester, Arlene, Henry and Helen. A Celebration of Marty’s Life will happen on Friday, July 16, 2021 at Long Lake Regional Park Pavilion in New Brighton, Minnesota from 5pm to 8pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Marty’s name may be made to We Love to Play, care of, Charlie Brose, 6537 Riverwood Lane, Brooklyn Center, MN 55430.
