Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David Allen Bugg was born August 30, 1949, to Jeanette (Kvinge) and Wesley Bugg in Volga, South Dakota. He died October 15, 2023, at River Heights Assisted Living, South Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Dave spent his early childhood in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, until his family relocated to Brookings, South Dakota. After graduation from Brookings High School in 1967, Dave attended South Dakota State University graduating in 1972 with a degree in Pharmacy. After an internship in Terre Haute, Indiana, Dave was employed at the Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia, New Hampshire, until moving back to Brookings in 1978. He worked in various pharmacies in Brookings and Yankton, South Dakota, and eventually moved to Sioux City, Iowa, in 1989 where he was employed at Mercy Medical Center until his retirement in 2013.
Dave loved spending his formative years with all of his Kvinge cousins at his Aunts’ and Uncles’ cabins at Lake Poinsett, South Dakota. He also enjoyed music and playing electric guitar in a few cover bands in the late 1960’s. His band The Military Pickle was inducted into the South Dakota Rock and Roll Music Association Hall of Fame in 2016.
Upon retirement, Dave moved to West St. Paul, Minnesota, to be near his daughters and grandchildren. An avid audiophile, he continued collecting guitars, amplifiers, speakers and various stereo components and supported his grandchildren’s musical endeavors.
Dave was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia in the Spring of 2022 and moved into an assisted care facility that autumn.
Dave is survived by two daughters, Emily (Brandon Willcox) of West St. Paul, MN, and Julie (Nick Johnson) of St. Paul, MN; three grandchildren, Valeri Wellnitz of Duluth, Minnesota, and Warren and Benjamin Willcox of West St. Paul, MN; one sister, Janis (Bobby Parks) of Hoover, Alabama; two nieces, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
An informal memorial will be held at Dave's daughter Julie's home in St Paul from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Saturday November 4th. In honor of David Bugg who was concerned about childhood hunger, please consider a donation to Second Harvest Heartland: Second Harvest Heartland, 7101 Winnetka Avenue N., Brooklyn Park, MN 55428.
