Born Feb 10, 1924, Passed away on March 1, 2024
100 years and 20 days
Born in St. Paul’s Italian (High Bridge) enclave. Graduate of Monroe High School, all-city track and gymnastics. Served in WWII with the US Army and made rank of SGT. Served in New Guinea and the Philippines. Retired in 1989 as Deputy Sheriff from the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office. Both he and his wife were extensive world travelers, visiting 47 countries.
Heavily involved in the advanced amateur photographic arts for over 60 years which included Nature, Pictorial/Experimental, Photojournalism and Photo Travel in prints and slides at the local, regional national and international levels. Long time active member of the St. Paul Camera Club and Photographic Society of America. Winner of over 700 awards and honorariums for his photography and activities. Which included lecturing, writing and editing.
Community involvement was very important and he served as a judging panel member for 30 years with Steele County (Owatonna) Fair’s Photo Dept which benefitted the rural photo arts. Drove for Meals on Wheels for many years and involved with Christ the Servant Lutheran Church Weekly Bread give-away.
Preceded in death by his loving wife Rose, loving parents Emil and Edith, Brothers Melvin and Marshall, Grandson Lorin Blackstad and son-in-law Ron DuBois.
Survived by Daughter’s Karen (Dan Blackstad), Kathy Bidney (Rick), Kristy DuBois and son Aric (Sandy).
A Funeral Service will be held at Christ of Servant Lutheran Church at 3676 Centerville Road, Vadnais Heights, MN, 55127 on March 22, 2024 at 12:30PM.
