Obituary of Mulumebet Zena

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mulumebet Zena, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Mulumebet departed from this world on March 28th, 2024, surrounded by the love and presence of her devoted family and cherished friends. Mulumebet was born on July 27th, 1965, in Dessie, Wollo, Ethiopia, to her loving parents, Zena Markos and Zuriyashwork Degu Abegaz. She was raised in a close-knit family alongside her siblings, Senaye Zenna, Amarech Zena, Addisalem Zena, and Belay Zena. Mulumebet's childhood was filled with love, laughter, and the bonds of familial connection that would remain strong throughout her life. Education played a significant role in Mulumebet's life journey. She attended Kokebe Tsebih Secondary School, where she exhibited a remarkable intellect and dedication to her studies. Later, she pursued her passion for finance and earned a diploma in Accounting from Misrak Poly Technic College, a testament to her unwavering commitment to academic excellence. She then went on to work as an Accounting secretary. In 1992, Mulumebet embarked on a new chapter of her life, moving to the United States with her beloved husband, Tsegaye Wolde-yesus. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams. Mulumebet's devotion to her family was unwavering, and she poured her heart and soul into creating a nurturing and supportive home for her husband and their four children: Mekdelawit Zena, Amanuel Tsegaye, Mahdere Tsegaye, and Markos Tsegaye. Her children were her greatest source of pride and joy, and she took immense pleasure in witnessing their growth, achievements, and successes. As a grandmother to Bitania Belay, Solyana Belay, and Galatia Belay, Mulumebet embraced the role of matriarch with grace and warmth. She delighted in showering her grandchildren with love, affection, and wisdom, creating cherished memories that will endure for generations to come. Mulumebet's passions were as diverse as they were profound. She found solace and inspiration in the melodies of Mahmoud Ahmed, Tilahun Gessesse, and Michael Jackson, whose music provided a soundtrack to her life's journey. An avid reader, Mulumebet found solace and inspiration within the pages of her favorite books, including "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho and "Becoming" by Michelle Obama. Her thirst for knowledge and understanding was insatiable, and she cherished the wisdom and insights gleaned from her literary explorations. In addition to her love for music and literature, Mulumebet found joy and fulfillment in the kitchen, where she showcased her culinary talents and created delicious meals that brought her family and friends together. Her impeccable taste and flair for fashion were evident in her stylish attire, which reflected her vibrant personality and timeless elegance. Mulumebet's gift for writing allowed her to express herself with grace and eloquence, capturing the beauty and complexity of life with profound insight and emotion. Mulumebet's legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will forever be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will continue to inspire and uplift those whose lives she touched, serving as a beacon of hope and strength in times of darkness. Mulumebet is survived by her mother, Zuriyashwork Degu Abegaz, her husband, Tsegaye Wolde-yesus, her children, Mekdelawit Zena, Amanuel Tsegaye, Mahdere Tsegaye, and Markos Tsegaye, her siblings, Senaye Zenna, Amarech Zena, Addisalem Zena, and Belay Zena, as well as her grandchildren, Bitania Belay, Solyana Belay, and Galatia Belay. There will be a church service held on April 6th, 2024 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Debreselam Medhanialem Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The church is located at 4401 Minnehaha Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55406. The burial will follow directly after the church service at Resurrection Cemetery, 2101 Lexington Ave S, Mendota Heights, MN 55120 Though she may be physically absent, Mulumebet's spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, guiding them with her unwavering love and light. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
