Please share a memory of Carol to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gritzmaker, Carol Ann age 84 of Woodbury, MN.
Carol passed away peacefully on April 29th, 2024 due to complications from Alzheimer’s. Like all life experiences, Carol managed her illness with dignity and grace. She was always in good spirits and heart full of smiles when spending time with her family.
Carol was born in Plum City, WI on May 20, 1939 to Matt and Gladys Hei. She was 3rd from the youngest and the only girl with 8 brothers. Raised on a farm she learned many skills and the value of hard work.
Carol moved to St. Paul in 1957 right after graduation from Plum City High School. She worked for Norwest Bank and enjoyed bowling. In 1963, she met Ron and were married in 1964. Their family grew over the next 6 years with James, Timothy, and Kimberly. Over the next years, she dedicated herself to her children and involved herself in being a Den Mother for Cub Scouts and president of PTA at their elementary school. As the children grew her interests turned to baking, sewing, and crafting. Her Cross Country Boutique in Lake Elmo brought joy to many for unique, handcrafted items for years. She won many ribbons at the Washington City fair and then the MN State Fair. Baked goods, jams, and jellies were her specialties. In 1994, she won the grand champion award at the MN State Fair for her blueberry jam. The recipe was purchased by Gedney and distributed to local grocery stores with her face and story on each jar. Her love for baking and canning was passed onto her grandkids so those “secret” recipes continue to bring happiness within her family.
Later in life, her and Ron enjoyed worldwide travel and fulfilling their bucket list. Their home in Arizona kept them warm in the winter and their lake home in Lake Elmo was always full with family, friends, and good times. Happily married for 57 years, they created a beautiful life for their family. Considered “Grandma Extraordinaire,” she was always supportive and cheering for her grandkids at hockey, karate, gymnastics, baseball, and softball games. So proud of every accomplishment and milestone, her grandkids adored her.
Mother to James (Sara), Timothy (Melissa), and Kimberly. Grandmother to Aaron, Alysha, Haley, Zach, Mikayla, Syvanna, Pierce, Paige, and 3 great grandkids. She was loved by many nieces, nephews, sister-in-law’s, extended family, and friends. She was proceeded in death by her husband Ron, parents, and seven brothers. She will be remembered for her love of life and always making the most of what God blessed her with.
Funeral 11AM Thursday, May 9th at King of Kings Lutheran Church 1583 Radio Drive, Woodbury. Visitation at church 1 hour preceding the service. Private interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
