Obituary of Darwin A. Korum

Darwin was born October 8, 1930 and went home to be with the lord on March 29, 2015. Preceded in death by parents, Emil and Clara; sisters, Genevieve Chalmers and Elaine Schaller. Survived by beloved wife of 57 years, Barbara (nee Bailey); adoring children, Kathy, Dan (Suzanne) and Gary (Tamara); proud grandchildren, Jonathon (Samantha), Spencer, Jeffrey, Emerson, Taylor, Wesley and Eleanor. Also survived by sister, Jeannette Bunde; nephew, Todd (Pam) Bunde; niece, Colleen Erdes; and their families. Darwin took great pride in growing up as a "Rice Streeter" and has been part of many Washington High reunions with old friends. He served 3 years in the US Army and Korean Conflict before graduating from the University of MN with a music major and history minor. He spent 30+ years teaching and mentoring students in the St. Paul Public School system, most of these at Humboldt High School. He spent 50+ years directing vocal choirs across the city, to include the Osman Chanters, Waldorf Paper Corporate Choir, Bethany, GA, Peace United Church of Christ, Beaver Lake and First Lutheran choirs. He was a proud East-Sider and member of Phalen Youth Club. Darwin's infectious personality, never ending smile and compassion will be missed by the thousands of people he has come in contact with over the past 84 years and the many close friends he leaves behind, especially his family who have benefited and learned so greatly from his examples in life. Memorials preferred to the University of Minnesota Marching Band Uniform Fund or Shriner's Children's Hospital. Funeral Thursday, April 2 at 11 AM at KING OF KINGS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1583 Radio Dr, Woodbury. Visitation Wednesday, April 1 from 4-8 PM & one hour prior to the service also at King of Kings. Private Interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
