Obituary of Lilly Ruth Anderson

Please share a memory of Lilly to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lilly Anderson was born Lilly Ruth Pihl on Jan 23, 1915 in St. Paul, MN. She went to heaven on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the age of 101 years. She was the seventh of nine children born to Swedish immigrants Isaac and Anna Pihl. She and her siblings were raised on the east side of St. Paul in the house her father built at 672 E. Ivy Street. They all attended Johnson High School. She was a lifelong member of First Covenant Church in St. Paul where she met and married Leonard M Anderson on September 29, 1936. Together they had three children, Lorna, Corrine and Jim. Lil was a faithful Christian, wife, and mother. Her solid faith was evidenced not so much by her words as by her example and her open Bible on the kitchen table. She was faithful to her husband in many ways, but the most memorable was that when he came home from work at the First National Bank, she had supper on the table at 5:00 each day for 34 years. All three children remember her motherly care: lunches when we came home from school at noon, caring for us when we were sick, rubbing sore legs, dressing childhood wounds. She was a tireless homemaker, seamstress, cook and baker with a spotlessly clean house. She was a gracious hostess, opening her home to relatives and friends for Sunday dinners, holidays, and other occasions. She was famous for her apple and blueberry pies, banana bread, and orange Cool Whip jello. Lil was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Twins, PGA golf, Vikings football, and basketball, in that order. She was a woman who made everyone she encountered feel welcome and loved. Her smile would light up the room. She is preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings and husband of 46 years. Lilly is survived by their children; Lorna (Bruce) Gustafson, Jim (Sally) Anderson and Corrine (Dale) Pearson, grandchildren; Karna (Bruce) Hardy, Kirsten Gustafson, Andrea (Nadeem) Qureshi, Aaron Pearson, Chad Pearson, Trai Nguyen, Lai (Chris) Maccarone, Britt (Bryan) Schachtele, Rachel (Jamie) Julkowski and great-grandchildren Chase Hardy, Grant and Tiffany Qureshi, William, Hannah and Luciano Maccarone, Althea and Lincoln Schachtele. A memorial service will be held at First Covenant Church, 1280 Arcade Street, St. Paul, MN 55106 on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 7:00 pm with a visitation prior to the service at 6:00 pm.
